How long have you had your mattress? The advice from retailers is to change it every eight years, but after a recent investigation into the increasing cost of buying a new mattress we found that Telegraph readers (strongly) disagree.
One couple told us they’re still sleeping happily on a mattress they bought 54 years ago for £100, while a reader poll revealed 53 per cent would replace a mattress after 15 years. Find more of your opinions below and join the debate in the article’s comments section.
This weekend also sees the return of Amazon’s spring sale. The Recommended team has been busy price-checking deals to find the genuine ones, with deal-finder Pete advising when you should – and shouldn’t – buy an electric toothbrush.

What to buy in Amazon’s spring sale
Amazon’s week-long spring sale ends tomorrow. Having tracked the prices, we’ve found the discounts aren’t quite as big as on Black Friday – but our specialist editors have all found decent deals on products they’ve reviewed. Here are some of the best.
Tech commissioning editor Nathan Spendelow’s best finds:
£30 off Apple AirPods 4, £220 off the Razr 60 smartphone and £70 off Sony WH1000-XM6 headphones.
Home and garden commissioning editor Hannah Mendelsohn’s best finds:
£70 off the Ninja Foodi Max air fryer, £100 off Dyson’s cooling air purifier and £70 off the Bosch Cordless Universal hedge cutter.
Beauty and grooming commissioning editor Rebecca Astill’s best finds:
£100 off the GHD Duet blowdry brush, £60 off the Babyliss Super-X hair clipper and £45 off the Cloud Nine curling wand.
Sleep reviews writer Emilia Hitching’s best finds:
£35 off the Simba Summer hybrid duvet, £38 off the Beurer WL 50 wake-up alarm clock and £9 off the Slumberdown Wonderfully Warm electric blanket.
READERS ASK
While there’s nothing quite like the feeling of new bedding, it’s not a panacea for sleep woes. We took some of your questions to Dr Sophie Bostock, This Morning’s sleep expert and a consultant who has worked on dedicated sleep improvement programmes.
From menopause-induced insomnia to what to do if you wake up in the middle of the night, Dr Bostock gave clear, helpful advice that’s well worth reading.

how long should should a mattress last?
‘We’ve had ours for 54 years’
Look in the comments section of any of our mattress articles and you’ll find a debate raging about how often you should change it. Common consensus among industry experts is that you should get a new one every seven or eight years. Our readers beg to differ.
We heard from Trevor and Monica, pictured above, who have kept the same mattress for half a century. Others have kept theirs for 18 or 23 years – so what’s the secret to long mattress life? And does it matter what you spend?

ASK THE EXPERT
What’s up with electric toothbrush prices?
During sale events, we advise checking price histories. Recently, readers have spotted something weird about electric toothbrush prices. They keep jumping up and down, sometimes by £100. What’s going on?
Deal-finder Pete Wise explains:
This is an example of price anchoring. Retail regulations say you can’t advertise a ‘discount’ if the product spends longer at that price than its ‘full’ price. So we see a constant oscillation between two price points throughout the year.
What you saw was the price jumping up to its higher point. If you’d gone back later – in some cases the next day – you would have seen it back at the lower price.
The interesting thing is that price anchoring is particularly common on electric toothbrushes.
