Louis Theroux’s new Netflix doc, Inside the Manosphere, takes its subjects far too seriously. The likes of HSTikkyTokky and other so-called influencers really do say unpleasant things and behave in repugnant ways. But, as Andrew Doyle argues today on spiked, we should not overestimate their hold over young men. As the documentary itself shows, lots of teens follow these characters mostly ‘for the lolz’. The appeal lies in seeing people say the unsayable, break woke taboos, transgress and get away with it. None of this is especially big or clever, but nor is it evidence that a generation has fallen to fascism. There is no need to panic about the manosphere ‘influencers’. Read Andrew’s piece here.
